Life in Bosnia: The Beauty of Ramsko Jezero

With approximately 7000 inhabitants, a few cozy coffee bars serving good cakes and cheap coffee Prozor itself is not that interesting; however, the surrounding nature is amazing, especially Ramsko Jezero (Ramsko Lake), where two of my friends and I visited this Monday.

This artificial lake, not far from the city, is one of many hidden natural beauties in Bosnia. If it has been drizzling the entire day, all hills are surrounded by steam, producing a fairytale-like atmosphere. The drive through hills from Prozor to Ramsko was beautiful. When we arrived and got out of the car, we are utterly astonished by the magnificent landscape. The lake is surrounded by small villages built against hills and nestled below snow-capped mountains. One great thing about Bosnia is that tourists have not yet discovered the country. Especially on Mondays, the tourists are nowhere in sight, and you can enjoy the beauty of nature all by yourself.In this incredibly peaceful place where warbling birds and nature take over, I can hardly imagine that a war took place here only less than two decades ago. For 15 minutes I can not do anything but gaze at the lake and let the beauty come back to me again.

Ramsko Lake is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.Located in Herzegovina region, Prozor and the surrounding areas are inhabited mostly by Catholic Croats, which might explain the existence of a church on this peninsula. No one is there. When the doors are swung open, they creak, and walking towards the altar; there is nothing but the echo of footsteps in the silence. This church embodies the same peace, trust, and calms experienced around the lake.

How to get from Mostar to Prozor

Buses go every day, the last one in the late afternoon. A bus ticket costs 10KM. If you want to go by car, you have to follow the road to Sarajevo until Jablanica, where you have to follow the signs saying Prozor.
